How It Started

Guitarist Shane Cook is also one of the organizers for the non-profit organization Rock The Ride/Rock The Ride For Kids. This organization was created to build a music scene for local musicians to perform in Vernal, UT.

After the formation of Rock The Ride, recruitment of musicians to perform in the monthly music festivals began. So who better to recruit than musician friends, right?

About Cedar Road Band

How did Cedar Road come to be, you ask? Guitarist Shane Cook is also one of the organizers for the non-profit organization Rock The Ride/Rock The Ride For Kids. This organization was created to build a music scene for local musicians to perform in Vernal, UT.

After the formation of Rock The Ride, recruitment of musicians to perform in the monthly music festivals began. So who better to recruit than musician friends, right?

Shane text longtime friend Tiffany about performing at one of the music festivals. Tiffany responded, “maybe, but probably not.” Tiffany then pawned her invitation to perform on Shilo. Shilo excitedly accepted. Tiffany introduced Shilo to Shane and a performance date was set.

Immediately following Shilo’s gig in May, she and Shane talked about playing the next festival together. Long conversation short, they agreed to do a show together. Shilo then reached out to Tiffany to again suggest they start a band. Tiffany’s previous “maybe” turned into a reluctant, “okay.” A band was formed.

After the three piece band’s debut performance in June, another gig was booked in July. Two weeks before that gig, Shilo ran into Hannah at a rodeo where she learned that Hannah plays mandolin, guitar, fiddle and sings. Rumor has it that Hannah accepted Shilo’s invitation to join the band. Speculation still remains as to whether she willfully joined or caved to Shilo’s pleading, although the latter is believed to be the more probable reason. Regardless, the band gained another talented musician.

The band without a name booked another gig. They needed a band name. After a two day group text hostage situation, the band officially became Cedar Road.

“We need a drummer.” The statement heard round the world, uh, rehearsal. Frequently.

“Shane, have you talked to Kerry?” Shane and Kerry have been friends since the dawning of time.

“Yes, but he’s undecided.”

Kerry Hatch, rock drummer extraordinaire was already a member of another band and undecided on whether he wanted to add another project to his plate.

As best friends do, Shane was telling Kerry about an upcoming small gig that Cedar Road had booked at a little restaurant. In a moment deemed as friendship weakness, Kerry volunteered to sit in and play cajon in this acoustic set. Knowing that the hook had been set, Shane gladly accepted Kerry’s offer. Kerry’s love of music and passion to play, along with Cedar Road’s group of talented, fun and remarkable people would be his ultimate demise. After playing the gig … Kerry was in.
